Welcome to our four part series on R12.2 Upgrades

Let’s take a peek as to what each series talks about. In the first part we will take you through the Prep work, Install of 12.2, upgrade of 12.2.2. and then upgrade of 12.2.3.



Before we delve into our four part R12 upgrade series, let’s take a peek as to what each series talks time_to_upgradeabout. In the first part we will take you through the Prep work, Install of 12.2, upgrade of 12.2.2. and then upgrade of 12.2.3.  There is a lot of content so we have summarized what you can expect to learn in each section……..we will review the prep work for online patching which helps you avoid long down time windows for upgrades, We have performed this exercise in our Demo Environment and found upgrade steps are similar to 11i to R12.1 with the exception of Online patching enablement, we have taken basic R12.1.3/11gR2.03 Setup and upgraded to R12.2/11gR2.03. The detailed document covers Upgrade Planning. 

We look at the different components involved in each area of the technology stack including:
• Oracle Database 11g Release 2 (
On the application tier, the technology stack includes:
• Oracle Fusion Middleware 11g PS3 (
• Oracle WebLogic Server 11g PS3
• Oracle WebLogic JSP compiler
• Oracle FMW 11g Java Required Files (JRF) libraries (except the use of ADF and MDS 11g)
• Oracle WebLogic Portlet 11g PS3 Container
• JRockit or JDK 6.0
• Apache version 2.2
• Oracle 10g (10.1.2) Applications Server for Oracle EBS Forms based Applications

Also reviewed are Web Services, R12.2 Upgrade tasks and preparation for the upgrade with details instructions covering:

Upgrade Planning:
- Release 12.2 includes a re-packaged Rapid install that makes it possible to upgrade existing 12.0 (12.0.4, 12.0.6) and 12.1(12.1.1, 12.1.2 and 12.1.3) systems directly to Release 12.2.
- is minimum required RDBMS Version
- The CPU requirements for running Oracle E-Business Suite depends on:
1) A number of concurrent users and their usage profiles
2) A number of concurrent manager processes and the types of jobs they are running
3) Load for activities other than Oracle E-Business Suite
4) Size of the database
5) Desired response time
-A minimum of 16GB memory is recommended by the upgrade guide during an assessment run
- The online patching in R12.2 means significantly larger disk space requirement, approximately 70 GB for application File system
