SAPPHIRE 2017 Has Come and Gone...Now What?

An estimated 30,000 conference-goers met in Orlando, Florida, to enjoy a week of sun, fun, and…SAP!?!

From the thought provoking key note addresses to the dazzling demonstrations, there was something for everybody. SAP has proven again that their brand is as strong as ever and the future is coming fast! Everyone has their own reasons for attending the conference. Whether it is understanding SAP’s path forward, researching the perfect tool to add to your IT toolkit, or reuniting with SAP colleagues from around the globe, SAPPHIRE NOW brings together the greatest SAP minds in a way few conferences can.

But when it’s all said and done, we’re all left asking the same question: how do I maximize my investment in SAP?

This was a question a former colleague (and now decision-maker) asked me as we were discussing Winshuttle. Sure, she believes in the product. And yes, her company was in the process of using the tools they had invested in. But her next-level question was brilliant: “how do we implement Winshuttle effectively?”

After being a part of some really good implementations (check out the Dorman Case Study we presented at Sapphire last year) – and also speaking with too many customers who owned the tool but aren’t maximizing the benefit, here are some key points to keep in mind to get the most out of your implementation.

 

1) Commit to the project with the same enthusiasm you would for an SAP roll-out

Consider the commitment with which you initially implemented SAP. Did the thought ever cross your mind to abandon the project? Or that SAP was a short-term, flavor-of-the month, solution?

Of course not. Implementing SAP is a generational investment for your business. It deserves every opportunity to succeed.

Your Winshuttle project should be given similar consideration. Name a champion. Identify key stakeholders. Create a charter. Identify your Key Performance Indicators that will make you successful and stick to them. Commit to the project to get the most from your investment.

 

2) Organize. Plan. Repeat.

Once you identify what is most important to your business, tackle those elements first. Be sure to keep your long-term roadmap in mind. Remember, Winshuttle is a powerful tool. It’s imperative that scripts and templates are created, tested, and stored in a way that works for the business as well as the success of the project.

The good news is that there are simple fixes for this problem: on-site or remote training customized to your need; explanation of best practices including tips and tricks; spot help to complete complex scripts.

All of these methods help you unlock Winshuttle thinking that will allow you to get the most out of the product and internalize the solutions. Much like SAP consulting at the turn of the century, you often don’t know what you don’t know. Utilize a resource to guide you.

4) The first step in improvement is to measure results

Avoid 'new toy fatigue' at all costs. Too many IT roads are littered with expensive, under-utilized applications. Don’t fall victim to this scenario.

Once you’ve hit your first wave of goals, target a 2nd wave of wins. Constantly evaluate new business requirements by asking the question, ‘how would I do this with Winshuttle?’ And of course, measure your successes. There are great analytical tools available within Winshuttle that can you how much time and money you are saving with the tool. Use this as your guide.
