Oracle E-Biz R12.2 Key Features in R12.2.5, AD & TXK RUP 7

A new 'dualfs' option is available when performing standard clones, as well as while adding a new node. With the 'dualfs' option, both the run and patch file systems are cloned and configured in a single operation.

Introduction:

Oracle always tries to introduce new features in all the new releases of databases and applications. These features either are categorized as bug fixes, enhancements to an existing functionality or they are introduced as a new functionality all together.

Here we will discuss the features which not only enhance the end users overall experience but also reduce the overall turn around R12.2 clone and cutover time.

Below you will find the features that were introduced in R12.2.5 and Application DBA and Technology Stack Release (AD/TXK) RUP 7 version.

**Note: It’s not mandatory to upgrade to version R12.2.5 to take advantage of these features. Optionally you can apply latest available AD/ TXK RUP 7 release update packs (on top of the release 12.2.3 or later releases) to avail these features.

Support for new EBS Installation Central Inventory

Support for an instance-specific EBS Installation Central Inventory has been introduced as an option for the application tier on the UNIX platforms. The inventory is identified by <s_base>/oraInventory/oraInst.loc.

This feature is useful where multiple Oracle E-biz Suite installations co-exist on the same host. This feature eliminates any dependency on oraInst.loc for ADOP. Now we can run multiple concurrent ADOP sessions for different instances.

Oracle WebLogic Server Performance Enhancements

  • A new -DserverType=wlx start argument for managed servers reduces their memory footprint, by preventing startup of the Enterprise JavaBeans EJB), Java EE Connector Architecture (JCA), and Java Message Service JMS) services.
  • The default value of s_forms-c4wsstatus is now set to 'Disabled'. Thus, the formsc4-ws servers are no longer started during a 'start all' operation.
  • To reduce oacore startup time, the Portlet Producer libraries are no longer deployed to the EBS domain. A new context variable, s_deploy_portlet has been introduced to take care of the cases where portlet-related configuration is required, such as in instances where Webcenter integration is required.

These features are useful and will reduce the cutover phase as well turn around time for normal stopall and startall services.

New 'dualfs' option in standard cloning

A new 'dualfs' option is available when performing standard clones, as well as while adding a new node. With the 'dualfs' option, both the run and patch file systems are cloned and configured in a single operation.

This feature is useful and will help us to reduce the overall turnaround time for clone. As compared to current process where we configure both these file systems sequentially (Run file system and then Patch file system) whereas with dualfs option both the file systems can be configured in parallel.

Script to Automate Changing Oracle WebLogic Server Administration User Password

The procedure to change the Oracle WebLogic Server Administration User Password has been simplified and largely automated by the introduction of a new utility to change password and hence removing all the manual steps.

One can set the Oracle WebLogic Server Administration User password to a non-default value during Oracle E-Business Suite installation. If one needs to change the password at a later time, one can do so on the run file system by shutting down all the application tier services except the Admin Server, then running the following script with the option  -action=updateAdminPassword

$FND_TOP/patch/115/bin/txkUpdateEBSDomain.pl

Enhanced adop to introduce monitoring and validation features

A ‘validate’ option has been introduced in adop which helps in checking if system is ready with all pre-requisites to run an adop. We can run this option even before prepare phase is active or is started.

If you run this option when a patching cycle is in progress, the process will validate for the cutover phase.

Online Patching Monitoring Utility (adopmon) has been introduced to check the progress of an online patching cycle. This utility can be used to monitor the overall progress of a patching cycle, as well as identifying the various individual adop phases or jobs being executed.

Conclusion:

As discussed above, following new features will be enabled by R12.2.5, AD and TXK RUP7 and these features will provide:

  •        Enhanced WebLogic Performance.
  •        Multiple concurrent ADOP sessions for different instances can be run.
  •        Reduced overall turnaround time for clone and cutover phase.
